What About Equity?
While private schools in the DC area have utilized outdoor learning from the start, it's been less available to our most "at-risk" public school students who already suffer from inequitable access to outdoor space in our city. Our mission is to change that--not just for the pandemic--but forever. That's why we began this movement with a highly successful pilot in Ward 8's Oxon Run Park. Ward 8 families have embraced the opportunity!
The Demand
1. More than half of DC teachers surveyed who say they are reluctant to return in-person say they would feel more comfortable teaching outdoors?
2. Moe than 30 DC schools are already utilizing outdoor learning or are making plans to use it for Quarter 4 (Spring 2021)
3. More than 3,000 members of the DC community, mostly parents and teachers, signed our petition asking for the city to create & support outdoor learning opportunities this year- that's nearly 3 times as many as signed a petition for indoor reopening.
