Who Are We
The DC Coalition for Equitable Outdoor Education is a network that includes outdoor education providers, technical advisors, educators, families, students, advocates, community organizations, health professionals, epidemiologists, business owners  and elected representatives. Together, we provide a network of  support, a deep pool of knowledge and resources, high-quality programming models and a springboard for advocacy to assist those interested in expanding equitable outdoor learning opportunities for schools and in green spaces across the District.

Our Story
In an effort to address inequitable access to enriching and safe in-person learning opportunities during the pandemic, a group of outdoor ed providers, educators, families, advocates, among  others, partnered with the community group Friends of Oxon Run Park to establish ongoing outdoor programming (read more here). To date, this programming  has served hundreds of Ward 8 families. Also during the 2020-2021 school year, the Coalition successfully assisted Patterson ES in Ward 8 in obtaining a fifteen thousand dollar grant through Green Schoolyards America to expand their outdoor learning footprint and become a demonstration site for other ward 8 schools.

The Coalition continues to help schools citywide to obtain funding, resources, and the support they need in order to  provide students with outdoor learning opportunities.
